Social Media Marketing Made Easier with Jenna Harding

Social media marketing can feel overwhelming, especially for therapists who were taught not to self-promote. In this episode of The Traveling Therapist Podcast, I sit down with social media expert Jenna Harding to talk about why social media marketing does not have to be perfect, polished, or complicated to actually work.

We dig into why authenticity matters more than ever, how imperfect content can outperform polished posts, and how therapists can use social media marketing to get in front of the right clients without burning out or overthinking every post.

If social media has felt intimidating, frustrating, or just exhausting, this conversation will help you rethink how you show up and make it feel a whole lot easier.

[00:00:00] Kym_: Hey everybody. Welcome back to another episode of The Traveling Therapist podcast. I'm excited. Date you guys. We have Jenna Harding here with us. This I'm like fangirling a little bit. If you guys don't know who she is, you probably already do on Instagram Jenna's page. She's like a social media expert.

[00:00:17] I'm gonna have her tell you guys about herself in a minute, but I just love her so much and I'm so excited to have her here.

[00:00:23] Jenna. Could you please introduce yourself and just tell everybody a little bit about you and what you do, and then we can sort of dive into some stuff that I wanna talk to the traveling therapist about.

[00:00:32] Jenna: for sure. Kim, you're so sweet. I started out as a social media manager. Well, actually I started out as an actor slash bartender, and then I got involved in PR and I got involved in social media and I fell in love with marketing and I learned everything I could about marketing psychology. And then when my passion for marketing merged with my knowledge of entertainment from like growing up in the entertainment industry, it resulted in this expertise around helping service-based business owners show up on Instagram and get clients from their content. So making content, speaking, you know, with your full chest about who you are, and then using content to get clients.

[00:01:12] Kym_: Love it. Every therapist listening to this right now is probably like, shoot me now. Because We hate social media, you know, like even like in grad school, right? We're taught like to never talk about ourselves, to never like go out and promote. But things have changed, right? And a lot of therapists get clients.

[00:01:27] on social media, Instagram, that sort of thing. So we're like learning as like an industry how to do this more. And I personally hate it. Right. And Jenna, I've been following Jennifer A. Long time, and this is sort of the, I guess, trajectory anyway of like somebody on social media. You usually like find somebody, you like their style, you followed them, and eventually you want to like purchase something from them.

[00:01:49] And which I did. So I joined Jenna. Program called Magic Marketing Machine. And I also signed up for like the extra like coaching. 'cause I felt like I needed a lot of extra help. it's an amazing program. So that's why when you were like, I think you did a, a reel about like, podcast scammers or something and I was like, oh my God, please come on my podcast and just talk about everything that you offer.

[00:02:10] And I would just love to dive in around your strategy and your personality and all that stuff. 'cause that's what attracted me to you and I want. The therapist listening to understand like if you show up like you do right authentically with who you are, you're gonna attract people. And then it makes social media so much easier with what you're trying to do and put out there to the world. That's a big thing,

[00:02:30] Jenna: if you're just. it's a lot. let's handle all of it. well, think about this like when I, just as a normal person, who would be your client, right? Would be anyone listening's client, normal guy, don't know anything about therapy or like where to go for it or who's the best, even like, I don't know.

[00:02:46] I don't care like I am, I might look for a star rating. It's similar to like shopping for a therapist or shopping for a lawyer. You either get referred to someone because you know somebody who refers you to someone that love, you know, you know, somebody who worked with someone and loved them. But therapy, I mean, we might not be talking about that as much at the dinner table.

[00:03:05] Actually, lawyers, lawyers too. so if you're getting referrals, that's great, but we can't rely on them. And then. What would I do? I would let go registered therapist Ontario would probably be my Google search. And then I would find a boring blue and white website with a list of people's names and a short blurb about them, right?

[00:03:26] Or maybe I would go to better help because I see them on social media,

[00:03:30] Kym_: Every sponsored ad is like better help.

[00:03:32] Jenna: Because they're actually getting in front of people. Right? And I did go to better help because I went through this exact process. I don't know where to find somebody. What if you showed up in front of me? What if you made an eight second reel that got in front of me and I thought, Hey, this person looks cool.

[00:03:46] Oh, looks like they work with people who are just like me and go through, are going through exactly what I'm going through, right? Why leave it? Or maybe I would find your website maybe. Probably not because that big like blue and white website is gonna have better SEO than yours. 'cause they're huge. Like whatever.

[00:04:03] Or, or like governing body, you know what I mean? So take it into your own hands. Like what else, what else are for me? Sorry Kim. I'm already like on a tangent,

[00:04:13] Kym_: for it. I love it.

[00:04:14] Jenna: For me, social media is it, it's like this is what we do and I meet other entrepreneurs who are selling other things and one of their, like other marketing strategies and one of their, oh, oh, here it comes.

[00:04:24] One of their marketing tactics is always, you don't wanna be on the hamster wheel of social media. Right? That's always it. I'm like, why do you need to attack social media? Because you know it's your greatest competitor? Because it is the best, it is the best freest way to get in front of a bazillion people and make them feel like they're on FaceTime with you, so they feel.

[00:04:45] Purchasing from you and on Instagram. The links work better than on TikTok and they're prioritizing direct messaging right now. So you can actually have a real connection with someone without making them do the nerve wracking thing of picking up the phone or getting on a sales call. It's like it's this guys like, for me, I'm just like, it's this. Do this.

[00:05:01] Kym_: Yes. one thing I, like I said in the beginning, do love about you is just like that authentic, like even in your coaching, you talk a lot about just like be yourself. Just let your true self like shine through. So Can we talk a little bit about like showing up like imperfectly and what that means and I feel like even like Instagram is like rewarding that as well right now it seems like, like that imperfect show up, you know, I think I've even seen you talk about that in reels and in coaching too.

[00:05:27] So could we talk about that to like take some pressure off of like, this is so serious, like I've just gotta be perfect on social media.

[00:05:34] Jenna: yeah, yeah. Like perfect doesn't sell. It never has. But especially now, one thing that's like majorly in the zeitgeist in the last couple weeks with the new Year and everything is how being imperfect is the way to beat

[00:05:46] Kym_: Mm.

[00:05:47] Jenna: Because AI makes things look beautiful. AI like. You know, eventually it will, but it's not tripping over its words and using niche references and like likening your life to the plight of a desperate housewife because that's what you actually watch.

[00:06:02] You know, when you go to, like, when you go home at night, like all of these weird nuances that make you, you, the strange metaphors you can come up with, like that's unbeatable and also. People are even talking about now, like editing your videos less, like don't edit out the mistakes when you have to stop and restart because it's another thing that makes you look real.

[00:06:20] Like you have guaranteed seen AI videos right now that you didn't clock as ai. Like it's getting so good, so let it be perfect, right? Like the only thing you have now is your personality. And I didn't always feel this, and I didn't always preach this so strongly, but. In 2023, let's say like probably summertime of 2023, I was working with a coach and we did what I never recommend You do, which is we looked at my competitors, the other big Instagram

[00:06:49] Kym_: so bad. Yeah.

[00:06:50] Jenna: Yeah, don't do it. 'cause they're making it up too. And even if they have a lot of followers, you don't know if they're making a lot of money anyway. It doesn't matter. I will mute or unfollow anyone that, where I hear an inside voice of me judging myself or being like, oh, that was a good hook.

[00:07:05] That hook's better than my hook today. Like anything like that, I just get them outta my eyes. So anyway.

[00:07:11] Kym_: such good advice. I would have to unfollow everybody, I think. But anyway.

[00:07:14] Jenna: Kim? No.

[00:07:17] Kym_: We're working on my mindset and the coaching too. Right? No,

[00:07:19] Jenna: yeah, yeah. Oh my God. No, I, you're a great example. I feel like you post what you think you're supposed to post, and I'm just like,

[00:07:25] Kym_: Yeah, exactly. Thank you. Yes, yes, yes, yes.

[00:07:29] Jenna: So my coach and I, we look at these other people and we just, as a thought experiment, we go, well, why are they doing, like, why are they doing well?

[00:07:37] What makes them different than me? Should I do more of what they're doing? Right? Just as a thought experiment. And I was like, well, they're polished. Like these girls have their nails done, they have their hair done. They flaunt wealth, like they look fancy, you know? And so I was like, well, I'll try that.

[00:07:52] Like we, we summed that up as they're being aspirational. Right. So I'm like, okay, well I make a lot of money. I can be, I can be aspirational. And so I started like trying that and it was just so not me. Like I don't wash my hair. I live on the beach. I bring my computer to the lake and I sit there smacking like spiders and mosquitoes.

[00:08:15] And that's where you write my email. Like it's not. I'm not that perfect pretty person. I'm bad at dressing myself, you know what I mean? So eventually, not intentionally, but eventually I just started going full, send in the opposite direction, and I made some videos that were like, how to make content when your house is a mess, that were ridiculous.

[00:08:37] And I actually made that same video, the same topic three times the third time. It

[00:08:42] Kym_: Oh my gosh.

[00:08:43] Jenna: absolutely took off. I make a post that's like, my hair's a mess. I have stains on my clothes, like pointing to like literal oil stains on my sweater. I'm like, I'm gonna make content anyway. And then like, just inspired people to just like come as they are.

[00:08:56] My account took off, blast off opening to 10,000 new followers a minute. You know what I mean? Like

[00:09:02] Kym_: Yeah.

[00:09:03] Jenna: not a minute, overnight. and then at the time I had an evergreen funnel set up, so that meant clients coming in the door and. So all these new people signing up to work with me, I think I had like a hundred thousand

[00:09:12] Kym_: Wow.

[00:09:13] Jenna: so this would've happened like December, 2023.

[00:09:16] I'd been teaching this stuff for a long time. I had a social media management agency. But yeah, that really resonated with people. And from there I've split the difference. Like I don't always look disgusting, but it just really drove home that people are over aspirational. They're over perfect. They want to know you.

[00:09:33] They want to see. Real people reflected on their screens. Like, and oh, and sorry, Kim, another thing, like, I keep seeing these videos on TikTok right now of like how super aspirational influencers are losing their following because of everything, especially that's going on in the United States right now.

[00:09:52] People just don't connect at all with like your hall of all of your items and like your designer bag and your, perfect look like People are pushing against that because of the state of things. So yeah, they don't want Perfect. There's just a million reasons why you need to just like do the inner work

[00:10:11] Kym_: So you're talking to me, aren't

[00:10:12] Jenna: it takes to,

[00:10:13] Kym_: Yeah, yeah, I know. I

[00:10:14] Jenna: like, everyone listening like you guys know like about that.

[00:10:18] It's the inner, it's not the, the buttons stopping you. You can phone me, I'll tell you what buttons to push. That's the easy part. It's the inner work you need to do to be comfortable showing up that way.

[00:10:28] Kym_: And that's what I love about your program. Like you could easily just give a bunch of hooks. Like seriously, you could just give a bunch of hooks and say, go post this, but you actually don't do that. And it's forced me to learn. why things work, like, why this works, why I should do it this way, and like trial and error.

[00:10:43] Like you really encourage that stuff. So, you know, and I guess I'm saying that out loud for anybody listening to just kind of get that message, you know, that it's better to, to go through it like you're doing instead of just like, maybe go join something where you get a bunch of hooks and just put 'em up.

[00:10:55] 'cause I've done that and it feels super inauthentic really. 'cause it's like, I've got the hook, I'm gonna fill in the, the blanks and then, you know, I mean, sometimes they get a lot of like. But it doesn't feel authentic really to who I am. So I've appreciated learning that from you.

[00:11:09] Jenna: Yeah. And you know what, like that's, that's interesting for if there are any like course creators or anything out there, like, people want hooks, they want simple, they want like templates. And I've always really battled that because I want people to actually get it so that they can have longevity and it will actually work.

[00:11:26] And I made a hooks mini offer. I have a mini course, you can buy my hooks library, but like. I, I didn't wanna do it. I only did it. 'cause I'm like, people just keep asking for this, so I'll do it and try and tell them how this isn't what they actually need. And where I kind of learned a lot of that lesson, like I think that part of that is just my personality.

[00:11:44] I like, I want, I'm like forcing learning on people. But part of where I learned that lesson was I would do consults and so when I started 50 bucks, I'll sit in a cafe with you, I'll give you a strategy, you know, and then it like more and more. And then, but at the, eventually I was charging like 400 USD an hour for consulting, consulting, and.

[00:12:04] I didn't think it was benefiting these people because they would leave with more questions and they needed follow up and like I'm like trying to lay out everything about how this works so that they can make decisions for themselves that are informed, And try and introduce them to who they actually are and you know, all the things.

[00:12:23] And so I stopped doing it and I just, I refuse to do like hour long consults now because I just don't think that it benefits people. And that's why Magic Marketing Machine was, that's part of why it was created, because I'm like, just let me, comfort three, three months. Like, let's do this, right?

[00:12:38] And then you will have these skills for every business that you work on, every offer that you sell forever. So that was kind of

[00:12:44] Kym_: Yeah, no, I appreciate, I mean, I, at times I've been like, oh my God, just gimme the freaking hook, you know? But then it's like, I appreciate it now. 'cause you've actually made me think through like why I'm doing the things that I'm doing. Like, content pillars, you know, all of that stuff that I really wasn't thinking about before.

[00:12:58] I was just like randomly throwing stuff out and a lot of times it was just like I saw somebody else do something that was cute and I would just put it out there, you know, like real quick to just do something. But, so I appreciate

[00:13:08] Jenna: you can still do that. Like you can still do that just for fun, like whatever, like it's gonna help.

[00:13:14] Kym_: Not the best

[00:13:15] Jenna: we need, we need the balance.

[00:13:16] Kym_: So I love all that. And I'm kind of jumping around, but one thing that I really have appreciated is we, did we do this thing in the program, right? You call it the growth spurt, which was so cool because it was just like. Let's just create a bunch of crap, like, not crap, but just like stuff together, like really fast and just like get it out there and just like really just like do all these different strategies at once.

[00:13:38] And it was so much fun. Really. It was so much fun. But the thing I loved a lot was like, like the B-roll suggestions. Like we're, we're like in the training and jetta's like, okay, we're going outside. Take your, take this, take this. We go outside and we, and the thing that you did that actually got so many views was you were like, let's do a spit take.

[00:13:55] And I'm like, what is this? Spit take. I'm like, I had no idea what that was. And she's like, just like, pretend like you're drinking water and spit. I'm like, okay. So I did it and I felt really silly, like posting it, but it actually did so well. Like the engagement on that post was just amazing. So I wonder, with all that being said, I wonder, could you talk a little bit about just like, B rolls, like just like poses, like you're so good at that and I think that would help people to like kind of understand like easy ways to do that.

[00:14:22] Jenna: Yeah, so B roll reels is what we're talking about. That's when you're scrolling through your phone and you see like a six second video with text on the screen and music playing and nobody's talking. And the term was co-opted from the news, like, or from like television, right? So, in TV the rule is say trucks.

[00:14:39] See, look, I'm forcing learning on you, and I could

[00:14:41] Kym_: no. Do it. Force it.

[00:14:42] Jenna: but. in, uh, tv, there's, there's a rule that's like, say a, say truck, sea truck. So like, if you're watching the news and they say there's been, there's going to be a snowstorm tomorrow. Then they show clips of a snowstorm from last year because they said snowstorm.

[00:14:56] So snowstorm hasn't even happened yet, but our brains are just like

[00:14:59] uh,

[00:14:59] Kym_: Yes.

[00:15:00] Jenna: That is called. Not the A roll, but it's the B roll. It's like the footage they have stored that is kind of relevant to what they're saying, or maybe not, or just like whatever. So, so that term has now come to Instagram.

[00:15:13] So Instagram used to be a platform of photos. It's not anymore. It used to be a platform of you know. A picture of a pond with an inspirational quote written on it, that doesn't really do all that much anymore. It doesn't really perform well. But if we do six seconds of B roll with an inspirational quote written on it and some music playing, suddenly it works.

[00:15:38] So. This is, it's kind of just like your statement, graphics and what they have been, what they have become. So if you can film six seconds of something you're already doing today, what did you do today? You got up, you got dressed. Okay, cool. Let's do an outfit. Transition from your PJ's to your outfit. Then you put on your makeup, great film, a time lapse of doing your makeup.

[00:15:57] Then you went and made a smoothie Cool film. A clip of you filling the blender, a clip of you running the blender, and a clip of you sipping your smoothie in your favorite chair. Perfect. Now we have all these videos that can say literally anything on them because they, 'cause you are the leading actor, you are the star, right?

[00:16:15] So they can say anything that you would say and it becomes relevant because you're back there. So like reminding myself to go into this day, releasing the comment that my coworker made about my hair yesterday. Hashtag progress. You know what I mean? I don't, I don't care. Like whatever it is that you would normally say or like just for anybody out there.

[00:16:39] Like, even though Christmas was fun, it was probably traumatic. And if you're having a hard time easing into the new year here are three strategies I use to ground myself in the moment when I feel that stress creeping up in my stomach. Read the caption. I'm not a therapist. I don't know what the f I'm talking about right now,

[00:16:55] Kym_: It's so good though, how you just come up with this stuff. It just, I just like to listen to you come up with this stuff, but Yeah. Yeah, yeah.

[00:17:01] Jenna: whatever you would say. You can put a bit on the B-roll a bit in the caption and, and then you have a post that literally took you a couple of minutes, not an hour. The stuff you're doing already plus the stuff you're saying

[00:17:15] Kym_: Yes, yes, yes, yes. Oh my gosh. I used to just like, set the scene behind me, you know? Like it had to all just look right, you know? And now it's just like, I, I just love it. I'm like, oh my God, why am I not recording this right now? This would be so good just to like, pop it on a, you know, pop a caption over it, you know?

[00:17:31] And now that I've learned better, like what a good hook is, like, based on what I'm trying to do with each reel, I've got a ton of these B rolls now. 'cause I think about it all the time. I'm like, okay. Just turn the camera on when you're doing stuff, and so I've got like a thousand B rolls on my phone now that I can just go pick one.

[00:17:46] Jenna: Do you have them organized?

[00:17:47] Kym_: after listening to you? Yes. In edits, they edit. Do you wanna tell them about it? Because I think that's such a clever tip.

[00:17:54] Jenna: Yeah, just like if, once you start, like phase one is like, take the B roll, like trust us, film it and you don't need to know what it's gonna say. You just need to film the clips and then you have a bunch on your phone when you need them. But then phase two is you go, oh my God, I have all these clips and now they're never where they, where I need them.

[00:18:10] And I'm scrolling through my phone and I'm getting distracted by all these other photos that I took and the recipes I saved. So then you need to organize them. So that could be saving them in edits the edits app and just like titling them B-roll or just making an A sub album on your phone called B-roll,

[00:18:27] Kym_: Yes, it does make it a lot easier to do it that way because like you said, I mean, then it's like squirrel, and then I'm like. over on Facebook posting something that I, and I've already forgotten what I was doing, so I, I really do appreciate that. what are some other easy tips?

[00:18:41] Like if somebody's listening and they're like, I know I've gotta get on social media, would you have any advice for somebody that maybe just hasn't even started, like, just starting an account, like maybe a little bit about optimization of an Instagram, header or something like that to just give some advice to somebody starting out? Like, I know I need to get started with social media.

[00:19:00] Jenna: I think we've said, I mean, we've said film, the thing we've said, just say the stuff. I guess the other thing, like people are still sitting there going, but yeah, but what do I say? But what do I post but what do I caption it? Right? So, one important thing you've heard us see this in Magic Marketing Machine a lot is don't put the whole hamburger in your mouth at once.

[00:19:18] And so that actually came from. A call that went really poorly a couple of years

[00:19:24] Kym_: Tell us.

[00:19:25] Jenna: where someone, yeah, so like I've been improving my moderation and coaching skills, obviously over the years. Right. And so I can spot this now, but at the time I was just like, I had no tools in my tool belt for what was happening in the room.

[00:19:39] I've never told this story publicly, but this um, business owner was in the room and she was feeling really overwhelmed with socials. And so she asked. And also, I will say a lot of times that happens when people haven't actually done the program. They just say, they'll just show up and they'll just kind of keep doing what they're doing.

[00:19:57] But now they paid for a program, so it'll be different. And you do need to, like, unfortunately, the work does need to be done. You know what I mean? But that's, that's everybody in every, everything anyone ever tries to learn. So she was feeling really overwhelmed and. Every time I gave her an answer, she asked a new question.

[00:20:15] So she'd be like, well, what do I make the post about? Make the post about your hair. Okay, but what if my hair is dirty? I'm like, okay, well then you're gonna wash your hair. She's like, but I ran out of

[00:20:23] Kym_: Oh my gosh.

[00:20:24] Jenna: Okay, then go to the store and buy shampoo. She's like, but my car broke. Like, this is, I'm. I'm kidding.

[00:20:29] Right? It wasn't about shampoo, but like this is what it was like. It's like, but then what do I hashtag it? But then what do I caption it, but then my computer's broken, but then my phone is full. But then what if my mom sees it? Like it's just like it. And I just, instead of like stopping her and pausing her, I was, I just kept answering and solving her problems.

[00:20:45] 'cause every problem has a solution. Like no, every problem has a solution. Everything you're stuck on, I do have an answer for. But telling you all these answers, just like the $400. Like a phone consult. It's not gonna get you where you wanna go. Right. We, she, she needs a process and we need to do things bit by bit.

[00:21:05] So while she's panicking, you know, have you ever taught a group zoom session and like everyone's kind of chilling and everyone does their own thing and people like work while they're listening. But then something crazy happens and everyone starts paying attention. Like they're watching like a TV show, and I see everyone's eyes come up and everybody's watching now this like, this, like car crash.

[00:21:24] And then one person, people are trying to help her in the chat and they're like, we get it. Yeah, no, you're not alone. And then somebody was just like, you're trying to put the whole cheeseburger in your mouth and just don't put it all in your mouth at once. Like you gotta take bites. And so, so that's where it came from.

[00:21:37] So now I just, I don't even. And don't even tell the backstory. I just assume people will get it. And I'll just say, don't put that whole

[00:21:45] Kym_: Yes, yes. Thank you. That's

[00:21:47] Jenna: you know, film all those B roll reels. Just film the clips. You don't need to know what they're gonna say. You don't need to know what music you're gonna add.

[00:21:53] You don't need to know how to hashtag it. Just do step one. Get that done.

[00:21:57] Kym_: I love it. Yeah, that's perfect. That's such good advice. And just, just start, right, just put, just put something out there. Like it doesn't have to be perfect again. 'cause a lot of therapists are like perfectionists, you know? And it's paralyzed. It can be paralyzing. At least in my coaching sessions with people, it's just like, I don't know where to start, at all.

[00:22:14] So with anything private practice, building, you know, all of it being a portable practice, all of that. It's overwhelming and paralyzing, but I love that. Just take small chunks and just put it out there and see what happens.

[00:22:25] Jenna: And I mean with that part, like you're being harder on yourself than anyone is being on you. No one noticed the food in your teeth, even no one noticed that you said the wrong word. And if they did and they comment. Your post will be seen by more people because they commented like that's how the platform works.

[00:22:44] Right. The more people comment, the more they interact with it, the more they watch it all the way through, the more people it gets shown to. So my sister just went through this. She owns like a fishing, hunting, snowmobile sort of resort. It's like she basically bought a rundown resort and then is like.

[00:23:01] it's a hard job. and so, she is also like, so historically she was so scared of showing up on social media and she didn't even really use it. She didn't use Instagram at all as a person. she needed to learn everything about the platform from scratch. Like, what am I even looking at here?

[00:23:15] You know? So every time I go and stay with her for like a month at a time, usually she's like, let's have a glass of wine. I'm like, great, let's go to the office and like sit there and make content. Like I'm like, this is fun for me. So she's getting really good and she just made a TikTok video. And one of the things they do is they have all these little cabins and they go in and stock your, your kitchen with all of your breakfast food so that you can wake up and you make your own breakfast before you like hit the trails basically. So she'll put like, peanut butter bread, bacon, eggs, like all the things that you're gonna use, and then you make it yourself.

[00:23:52] Oh, and there's a full kitchen in each cabin. And so. She made a video of like prepping the cabins for breakfast, and she filmed herself like filling the fridge and everything, and she put the peanut butter in the fridge.

[00:24:07] Kym_: oh, right. Yes.

[00:24:08] Jenna: And so,

[00:24:09] Kym_: Yes. I remember now. Yeah.

[00:24:11] Jenna: We were raised on like natural, no sugar, like only peanuts, peanut butter. But, and that goes in the fridge, but like most people eat like Skippy or whatever, like the sugary ones, they live on the counter. So the comments went wild on her. Like shitting on her for, for the, they're like, girl, like, what are you doing?

[00:24:30] Like, oh my God. Like, people were so passionate about it.

[00:24:33] She couldn't handle all these people. Like in her perception of somebody who's already on edge and already nervous, all these people are yelling at her, right? And like telling her she's wrong.

[00:24:42] So every time she opens her phone, it's like, you dummy. So she almost took it down. I was like, don't take it down. It's gonna be seen by more people.

[00:24:48] So now the comments are also saying things like, is there pike in the lake that your cabins are on? Are you dog friendly? Are you like, are you celiac friendly? Like people don't even, some people, most people don't even notice the peanut butter thing. They don't know why that, that's why that post blew up.

[00:25:05] They don't even see that in the comments necessarily. 'cause comments show up differently for different people. So like now they're just asking questions about booking with her and then. People have actually phoned. I know at least one guy, but I think more than that, have actually phoned and inquired about booking with her from this one

[00:25:20] Kym_: That is such a good, I mean, and it just goes to show like I've done that too. I've had like, 'cause I talk a lot about AI and a lot of therapists hate ai. They are so against it and I'll post and people are just like going off in the comments about you're a terrible person, you're destroying the environment.

[00:25:36] It so many times I've wanted to just take it down, but then it gets a ton of engagement. I mean, I hate to say it, but it does. Yeah. People love the drama.

[00:25:44] Jenna: And you can do this in like, it doesn't need to be angry ways, right? Like, well, the, the social media platforms, they're fueled by hate. Like, because it makes people comment and then it gets shown. And so then they sh And if you engage, actually this is good for people to know. If you engage with stuff that's like hate fueled and you re and you sit there even if you don't like it, but you open the comments and you read the people arguing, the app's gonna show you more posts where people are

[00:26:08] Kym_: wow. That's

[00:26:09] Jenna: right?

[00:26:09] Yeah. But you can also do things like put like, we call them Easter Eggs in magic

[00:26:15] Kym_: Mm-hmm.

[00:26:16] Jenna: right? So like, one of my favorite shows growing up was Boy Meets World, and I found this like Boy Meets World T-shirt that somebody had made at a thrift store. And I wear that. People are gonna comment on it.

[00:26:26] Oh my god, I remember that show. I love that show. Yeah. Great. So now we have a little bit of action in the comments. This post gets shown to the people who need it for the subject matter of the video. Or you might be maybe have like a poster on the wall behind You have Gone With The Wind, which was like your grandma's favorite movie, right?

[00:26:41] so you have that like on the wall behind you and it just gives people something to connect with you on and then it gives them something to comment on if they wanna.

[00:26:49] Kym_: Yes. I love it. So that's a good way to like get that engagement too, without having to be negative with the negative hooks or whatever, you know, to just like hope for the negative comments or the controversy or whatever. Yeah.

[00:27:01] Jenna: Yeah, well, there's a gal in the program. Oh, she's, she's out in the now, but she was in the program. You might have encountered her, but she made a post and it had a negative hook. It was kind of like spear based and. It went really like, it got a ton of views and it made her sales. And so she came to the call and she's a lovely, lovely woman, full of love.

[00:27:22] Ultimately her business like helps children. So, so she did this and it worked. So she was a little bit torn 'cause she's like, you know. This worked, but I wondered why it worked. And I said, okay, I love that you submitted this question. I wanna know if you know why it worked. And she goes, I know, you know, fear sell and it gets traction.

[00:27:42] So she was like, yeah, like she wanted to do it again because it worked. And once something works, we do it again. Right. But I, I encouraged her to flip it because for every fear. There's a preferred outcome, right? For every everything you wanna avoid, there's a desire that you're chasing. So everything can be flipped to the positive if you want it to put that on.

[00:28:04] That's like my whole life in,

[00:28:05] Kym_: I love that. That's so good though, because I struggle with that too. You know, I mean, I really do, like, I've done a couple of hot takes, you know, recently that have gotten a lot of attention on my Instagram and even those, I feel a little like. Like, it feels a little contrived. Like I'm trying to do a hot take, you know, to get like attention a little bit.

[00:28:24] I, although I believe what I'm saying, but it does like that stuff kind of makes me feel icky a little bit. So I love hearing that.

[00:28:30] Jenna: Maybe that can be your challenge. Maybe you can take one of those hot takes and be like, well, if I had to flip it, what's the opposite of this? Can I teach and encourage and inspire people the opposite of this in an equally as engaging way and find some ways to make it fun and interesting and interactive without like going to the fear.

[00:28:47] Anyway, she flipped the post. She did the same thing, but started from the positive and it got more views than the first one

[00:28:53] Kym_: my gosh. Oh, I love that. Moral of the story. That's great. That's awesome. Oh my gosh, I feel like I could just talk to you all day, but this has been so helpful and I, I hope you guys listening have just gotten a lot from this. And if anything, just put yourself out there. 'cause we really do, like right now, there's like.

[00:29:10] It's so hard to get clients for therapists. I think chatt PT, like I love ai, but also a lot of like clients are turning to Chatt PT and I think therapists are seeing it and feeling it. So, I mean, social media I feel like is a must and making it easier with people like you is just imperative. So I'm really glad to have you on right now and I hope anybody listening will check Jenna out.

[00:29:31] And Jenna, can you tell them where to find you and how to join Magic Marketing if they want to?

[00:29:35] Jenna: Yeah, well, we'll put a link. We can put a link. Down, right. what we can link people to is a free training, how to get clients from Instagram.

[00:29:43] So it'll be more like what we talked about here today, but then also introduce Magic marketing machine and give you the opportunity to join. And if you wanna come follow me. For weekly easy B-roll ideas and social media pep talks and strategies. Follow me at Jenna's page, which is J-E-N-N-A-S-P-A-I-G-E because it's my middle name.

[00:30:05] Kym_: It's play on words. It's so cute. But anyway, thank you so much for being here today and taking the time. It's been really helpful.
