Human design can completely change how you understand yourself, your energy, and the way you build your business. In this episode of The Traveling Therapist Podcast, I sit down with Mel McSherry to talk about what it really means to honor your energy, trust yourself, and build success that actually feels sustainable.
Mel shares their non-linear journey from fitness and network marketing to business coaching, and how discovering human design helped them reconnect with who they truly are and how they are meant to work. If you have ever felt successful on paper but disconnected on the inside, this conversation is for you.

[00:00:00] Kym: Hey everybody. Welcome back to another episode of The Traveling Therapist podcast. I'm excited to have our guest today, super interesting guest. You guys are gonna love this.
[00:00:09] Mel McSherry, thank you for being here with us today. I'm really excited to have you here.
[00:00:13] Mel: Thank you so much for the invitation, Kim. I'm just as excited.
[00:00:16] Kym: I love it. Yeah. So you guys know I don't always have therapists, so Mel's not a therapist, she's a coach, and we're gonna get into that a little bit and then talk about what she does and how she helps people, and really talk about this idea of how to honor your life and be the architect of your success.
[00:00:32] You guys know like. That is my favorite thing to talk about, starting with what is the lifestyle you wanna live and then let's build this whole thing around it. So Mel helps people do that. So Mel, thank you for being here and let's dig in. Maybe you could just give us a little background about yourself and what brought you to do this type of coaching to help other people.
[00:00:51] Mel: Yeah, absolutely. So I'm sure like a lot of people or almost everybody, you've, you've asked that question to, it was definitely not a straight line journey, right? It
[00:00:59] Kym: for sure.
[00:01:00] Mel: like, if you would've told me 16 years ago, this is where I'd be, I'd be like, Hmm, okay, whatever. But I actually started in the fitness industry. I was a certified personal trainer. And I worked for a corporate gym here in Chicago for about a year. That was my only and last corporate experience and realized this is not No, no, thank you. And beautifully. I actually grew up in a very entrepreneurial household. My father was an entrepreneur my entire life, so knowing what that's like to move through all of that with a family.
[00:01:30] 'cause we survived several very unsuccessful businesses until he created a very successful one at the age of 40. But it was definitely something that I was aware of and realized that I, I, that's how I was designed to be. I really wanted to be able to have full say on how I was spending my time, my energy, who I was spending it with.
[00:01:49] So in 2010, I started my first personal training company and I focused on in-home trainings, outdoor bootcamps. I got really well known for my bridal boot camps here in the Chicago area. and it's so interesting because. When I first started, you know, social media wasn't a thing in 2010 and it was very easy to trust yourself because there wasn't a lot of outside noise
[00:02:10] and when I look back at my journey, it's interesting how that got less and less, the loud that trust myself. The more and more noise that started to form with social media and things. So in 2010, I started my business in 2011, my son was born. And I was married at the time, but my now ex-husband's schedule was crazy. He was traveling pretty much about 75% of the year.
[00:02:33] so to try to figure out how to be a mom for the first time with a, you know, a, a travel, an on call, pretty much you know, business and no family or really a lot of outside support here in the city. I needed to take a break and really figure.
[00:02:48] What I wanted now, like to your point, like, well now what did I want my life to look like? And I, that question, what do I want is such a great question that we don't spend a lot of time on. And on the flip side too, we also don't spend a lot of time with what I don't want, what do I not want this to look like?
[00:03:03] So to give myself that space to really look at what do I want now with this new information of who I am now. I did some online medical billing for my father's company. Oh, so fun. I was a VA and a PA for a couple of companies, you know, virtually. And I always like to share that part of my story because again.
[00:03:23] It's never step one, step two, step three. Sometimes we need to make decisions to fill a certain profitability bucket. So when I talk about profitability, it is always multi-leveled. It is mentally, emotionally, energetically, and financially.
[00:03:38] And sometimes we need to make a decision to fill one of those buckets sooner rather than later so we can have the time and energy to fill the others.
[00:03:46] that decision in that moment was a financial decision that I made to, figure out this whole mom parenting thing. Right. And that came in the form of partnering with an online networking marketing company called Beachbody.
[00:04:00] Kym: Oh, I, I've done a lot of the beach bodies. I love them. You're probably gonna be like, oh, I hate them now.
[00:04:05] Mel: no, I honestly don't, I'm probably one of the few people that is very grateful for the experience I had.
[00:04:11] Kym: I love them. They were so fun
[00:04:13] Mel: Yeah. I, I really, and that's what attracted me to them, was I love that they weren't a one size fits all mentality. And that's how I trained. I always trained to the person, not do the keto, do, like I was never an, an on brand or on trend trainer, and I loved that Beachbody had that resources for me.
[00:04:36] And so I moved my business onto an online platform and partnering with them. And that's what I thought I was gonna do, honestly, for the rest of my life. And this is where that noise starts to get a little bit louder. 'cause now we're in 2013, Facebook Live is becoming a thing, instagram just started, people are really trying to understand what a virtual business is, and there's a lot of opinions and a lot of singular suggestions, right?
[00:04:59] Kym: Right. Oh my
[00:05:00] Mel: Because there's this 'cause we don't know yet. So you find that one expert and you copy and paste until you find the next one. And while I was there, I was consistent rather quickly in my sales.
[00:05:12] I was hitting what's called SC almost every month, and yet I didn't wanna do the hey girl messaging. I didn't wanna do the business side of it. I just wanted to be an online health and fitness coach with a re, with an online resource. However, because I was so consistent in my sales with my clients. My leader at the time was like, okay, you're one of my most consistent people out there.
[00:05:35] You're this married single mom. As we were coining myself and like, what's your secret? How are you doing this? And I really didn't think I was doing anything different. But it wasn't until that invitation that I took a pause and really looked at, well, what am I doing differently? And I realized it was something that I did naturally that's not natural to everybody else, which was, and still to this day, I honor my time and my energy management.
[00:05:58] So I wake up and as I said, I still do this to this day. I wake up in the morning and I check in on myself. How's my energy? How did I sleep? How am I feeling today? I look at my schedule, go, okay, how much time do I have to spend on my business? And then I look at my to-do list and I match on my to-do list what matches my time and energy, and again, I was like, I don't think that was anything revolutionary.
[00:06:20] Kym: But it's because most people don't do that. Like me, I, I wake up lately, I've been waking up like scrolling social media, like you're talking about it just like comparing and contrasting and maybe I should do this different. And you get caught in that trap instead of like just checking in with yourself and, and sort of figuring out, okay, like what am I trying to do today?
[00:06:39] and do I even feel like doing it? 'cause a lot of days I'm like, I just wanna go swim in the pool. Like we're in an Airbnb right now with a, you know, a 90 degree pool, but I've been in here working all day. You know, it's days like that, like trying to figure out how to match that stuff better is so important.
[00:06:53] Mel: because it's, we're not taught that, we're not taught to ask ourselves first. We are taught to seek the expert. We're like, well, just go figure it out. Go ask somebody and, you know, find the mentor, find the coach, yada, yada, yada. so when I put that in a little bit of a training exercise, she put that in the New Coach bootcamp and all of a sudden her team's productivity just exploded.
[00:07:11] And fast forward a year later, we're at the top 1% of all teams in the company. I now have a team underneath me 'cause people just wanted to work with me. I'm also doing these team trainings of how to do this all throughout Beachbody as well as quietly on the side for other network marketing companies.
[00:07:27] And then in 2015, I found myself in the middle of my divorce going, okay, I have one foot in technically business coaching, the other foot in fitness. I don't like to do the splits, nor can I. So this seems like a good time to plot twist and move into, you know, business coaching with this still this premise of how do you prioritize your time, your energy, and yourself.
[00:07:50] And so through Beachbody I was lovingly blessed with an opportunity to be an intern under John C. Maxwell, who's been a coach in the industry for decades. I'm talking like 50 ish years, and he's basically the one who created coaching in my, in my mind. Because he was working with one of the coaches at Beachbody, he offered a year long internship where a group of us got a monthly call with him and he would just
[00:08:19] Kym: spew his knowledge.
[00:08:21] Mel: Just like be able to pick his brain. And I was like this, I love this. Like this is what I do for fitness, but just for people in general. I love this. And so I got my international coaching certification through him and his team. Left Beachbody 2016 started my business, my coaching business in 2017.
[00:08:41] I gave that focus of profit prioritization and profitability is you, your energy, you know, where you're making sure you're being aligned. And that was going beautifully on paper up until 2020, which is probably a timeline for a lot of us.
[00:08:57] Kym: Yeah.
[00:08:58] Mel: On paper, I was crushing it. I was speaking all over the world. I was being paid to travel across countries to speak. I, you know, was making the six figures I was doing and I was still single at the time and taking care of my son. And yet each year I got more and more lost in that copy and paste.
[00:09:19] And in that noise to where when I hit that success that I had been working for, it felt weird. It felt disconnected. I didn't feel successful. I felt like I, and it, a lot of people coin this as imposter syndrome. It's that, and like there was just this deeper element to it of, no, this isn't really mine, but I don't know what is, because I have been taught to ask the expert, they will define me, and then I will, you know, say thank you and copy and paste and repeat.
[00:09:53] And then human design found me at the beginning of 2020. I was at a spiritual retreat in Sedona, Arizona. Unbeknownst to me two weeks before lockdown here in Chicago and we were in lockdown for a while and I was coming to this place of, okay, I'm I again, all sense of purposes, successful, crushing it. Cool.
[00:10:12] Why do I feel, like just. Not all there. And one of the other participants brought up human design and it had been brought up before years ago. And I looked up my type, which is one of many elements inside of human design and went, yeah, that's me. Cool. And then didn't feel any urge to go any deeper.
[00:10:29] This time, however, I spent the entire weekend going down a human design rabbit hole. And I remember sitting in my room just reading parts of it and sobbing because it was me. I had never seen myself fully in something before.
[00:10:48] There had been pieces, right? We, we hear somebody else's story and we go, oh yeah, I can resonate with that, or I can connect to that. That's where it ends. It's that, it's that connection. And then, no action afterwards. No, no call to action. Almost afterwards.
[00:11:01] And with human design, I was just like, oh, holy. I dunno if I can curse on here, but. It was just a huge, I call it a universal face palm of, oh, I'm not lazy. Oh, that's why that worked. Oh, that's why that didn't work. Oh, and it was just like light bulb upon light bulb moment.
[00:11:20] And when I left that retreat, I didn't tell anyone that I had found human design because I wasn't sure what it meant to me yet. I wanted to just quietly play with it and see what this really was all about. And so I spent all of 2020 doing that and just falling deeper and deeper in love with this tool and the way that it had shown me how to customize what I already created.
[00:11:42] The why behind my how I say that a lot when I talk about human design 'cause the why is important. We all that's very, and Simon Sinek has been gorgeous in bringing that forward for us. But where we always get flustered, frustrated or disconnected is the how. We don't think we know the how, when actually we were born with the how. And that's your human design. It's the why behind your how, and when you have that validation and confirmation, it's just like, oh, so then you can start actually building a trust in you.
[00:12:11] And the way that it started to shift my business, my relationships, I met my partner around that time as well. I was just like, okay, I can't keep this to myself, but again, I don't know how I wanna utilize it. So I started to do readings for friends, just like, Hey, I wanna know if this is something that I wanna do. Do you wanna play with me? And they're like, yeah, sure. Cool. Instantly got obsessed with doing readings and I'm like, okay.
[00:12:33] Entrepreneurs, especially business owners. I mean, everybody needs to know this, but there's a special place in my heart because of how long I've been an entrepreneur, that this information is so profitable because it silences a lot of that noise. And it creates a connection, a trust of who you are as an individual and the profitability that you already have inside of you to where that overwhelm, that overextension, yes, can still happen 'cause we're human and you have an operations manual, a guide your human design that can bring you back to you.
[00:13:09] Kym: right.
[00:13:10] Mel: So I came outta the spiritual closet in 2022 on LinkedIn, started talking about human design and as well as some of the other spiritual and non-traditional tools, energetic tools that I use in my, in my coaching or in my guidance. And it's just been a beautiful expansion ever since.
[00:13:26] Kym: It's amazing. So there's so much in there. I, I didn't wanna interrupt you 'cause it's such an amazing story, but there's so much, like even just hearing you in the beginning talking about your dad and the entrepreneurial stuff and he, you know, failed businesses, failed businesses, that kind of thing. I mean that, I just want people to hear that message loud and clear.
[00:13:43] You have to maybe reinvent yourself a few times. Try again. Just if something doesn't work, you know, that messaging around that is so. And then hearing your story, like you could have literally just stayed a Beachbody and been this head coach and just done that forever, but you listened to like that inner calling or whatever it was, it was like, ugh, you know, it's just not sitting okay with me.
[00:14:02] So I love that you just tuned into yourself and followed that along. And now you're doing this, which sounds. Amazing and incorporating the human design. So cool. I mean, I remember the first time, so I, I learned about human design from a therapist. I was in therapy, you know, and, and, you know, struggling with this and that, and the therapist was like, have you ever heard of human design?
[00:14:22] And I was like, no. So she did my chart and immediately was like, well, you're a generator. You know, just like giving me all this information and, and going like in depth, you know, she was like an expert with this stuff. I felt the same way as you. Like just really all of a sudden like. Oh, this makes total sense.
[00:14:39] And even now I have to say, I'm just, I, I still resist the path that I know, like from the human design that I should be doing. So I don't know what part of my human design makes me wanna resist my human design, but it's definitely in there.
[00:14:51] Mel: I mean, I could look at it and tell you if you wanna spend
[00:14:53] Kym: I know
[00:14:53] Mel: yeah.
[00:14:54] Kym: it's this line between the solar plexus and the closed gate or whatever.
[00:14:58] I don't know what it is, but I still resist it. But it, it's a really cool tool because even when I know like I'm up against like resistance or something, I think back to it now, like. It's like, that's probably why I'm doing this stuff. You know? So
[00:15:09] Mel: Hmm.
[00:15:10] Kym: talking because we know the human design, but maybe we could just back up for a second and tell people like, like a little bit about what it is in case they're like, I have no idea what you guys are even talking about.
[00:15:20] Mel: Yeah, so human design is a combination of seven different modalities, so it utilizes I ching astrology, Kabbalah, the chakras, and quantum physics, and I love that it's coined the science of differentiation because it shows you the profitability of your differences. Nobody has the exact same chart. Even though there is, you know, I mentioned there's many elements I like to call human design the onion of personal development, like the ultimate onion.
[00:15:45] 'cause there's so many layers and even in just what you expressed of, there's something I'm up against. The thing that I love about human design is that even when you have a disconnect somewhere, there's other areas in your chart that you can be with that might actually shine light on that disconnection without you having to.
[00:16:03] Really focus on it. So I love that it doesn't come with a game plan. In fact, the person who brought it forward says it takes an average of seven years for you to fully incorporate your design. And that's seven years of experiments, of play of all things because it's not a set rules, it's guidelines for you to customize to you, to your, you know, your culture, your community, your environment and so forth.
[00:16:28] So even in that way, it's. Structured yet fluid because it gives you your energetic information. So there's five energetic types, and they're all different just in how much energy and where that energy comes from, and then who you are inside of that type is defined more and more by other elements called, you know, your centers, your authority, your profile, your incarnation, cross, and so on and so forth.
[00:16:51] so if you wanna kind of wrap it all into a soundbite or to a, a bow, it's your operations manual. It reminds you and validates for you your purpose. And it doesn't tell you what you're gonna be when you grow up or anything like that. But the, the theme or the intention of the purpose that you are here to bring forward, and then the rest of the information is how you specifically are designed.
[00:17:14] To use that so you can honor your life as I, as you mentioned, and truly be the architect of your actual success, not the definition that you were trained to think it was, or that you you know, think is because that's going to give you X, Y, Z.
[00:17:30] Kym: Yeah, for example, for me, like, I hate public speaking, I hate it so much, but what I do right now, like, forces me, like people are always asking me to do public speaking, you know? So my human design, and I've talked about this on the podcast before, it, it's like, I don't know, this is for everybody with their human design, but it splits you in three parts, right? And my third part is like, once you turn 50, like you'll be on the
[00:17:51] Mel: Oh, you're a role model. I'm a role model as well.
[00:17:53] Kym: I'm a
[00:17:54] Mel: Yeah.
[00:17:55] Kym: now, but I'm gonna be, yeah.
[00:17:57] Mel: Yeah. So are you a six? Are you a role model? Hermit six two. Does that
[00:18:00] Kym: Yes, I'm a six
[00:18:01] Mel: I am
[00:18:02] Kym: generator. A generator or whatever. I don't know if you're a generator, but you know, it's been such a struggle for me and I force myself to do it even though like this chart really, I've had people tell me the chart. It's like, okay, once you're like 50, you're gonna ascend to the higher level on the rooftop.
[00:18:16] I feel much more comfortable with this stuff, but I've literally forced myself to do this for years now, even though it doesn't feel comfortable, I'm supposed to still be this hermit kind of thing. All that to say. You know, understanding that at least, I mean, I'm still resisting it as I was talking about before, but understanding it at least gives me a little bit more like comfort in myself, you know, to know that like, this is like programmed in me, that that's why it's hard for me. So when I get upset about, or anxious about, I have to like go back and think. So it's helped me, I guess, is what I'm saying. Yeah.
[00:18:43] Mel: yeah. And same, that, that was probably one of my bigger things of, especially the same as a, as a line six, as a role model. I had, and I'm also a hermit. Which for those of you who are like, what are you two saying? that's your profile, which are your two main characteristics inside of your chart.
[00:18:59] So one is conscious and one is unconscious, and it just shows you kind of your more profitable avenues like in, in marketing and in your, in your schedule, your routines and so forth. So as a role model. We have a technically a slower quote unquote process because we kind of hit our stride after 50.
[00:19:18] We take everything that we've learned and we've observed and we've experimented on, and we turn it into foundational as foundational space or information to where people just see us as the go-to person. Hence the role model term and. What's interesting is that, you know, even inside of that, same with me, I'm also what's called a projector. So I have no natural energy source, so I'm even quote unquote slower.
[00:19:42] Kym: Oh. Interesting.
[00:19:44] Mel: if I would've known that, I would've thought things through a lot differently, especially when it came to how much pressure I put on myself to hit certain milestones by certain age ranges. And I'm now 44 at the time of this recording.
[00:19:58] So even understanding that of, oh, I'm. I'm still experimenting, like I'm still on the roof. I can still be successful while on the roof, but this still isn't all it yet. So to have that comfort too of Oh, but it's getting there. Oh, but it's getting there and man, when it gets here, it is gonna be a suns.
[00:20:17] It is those little things that make such a big difference, and that's, that's another beautiful example of having this information that you may not know what to do with all of it right away, which you shouldn't. But the 90 minutes that I have the honor of spending with people when they have a reading with me, to watch their shoulders drop and for them to just go,
[00:20:40] Like that validation and confirmation. Yeah. Like we don't get that often for ourselves. And if we do, it's in little chunks and then we still get that. Well, now what? But how? And with human design. Yes, you still have those questions, but you automatically already have a, a, a guide to direct you into the how.
[00:21:01] And so it's that settling in. What's been really like powerful that's been coming up a lot lately with different podcasts I've been on and just conversations I've had with clients is trust is that trust in themselves. The confidence that they have now that's not based off of fake it till you make it.
[00:21:24] It's, it's based off of what they know to be true about themselves and they have not only the confidence behind it, but the vernacular to advocate for it. And so when you have that as an entrepreneur, as a business builder, that is like chef's kiss, like that's such a hosp of it. Like, oh, that we all work towards that we think we will get, once we hit a certain milestone or have a certain funnel, oh, you already have it inside of you.
[00:21:51] It's just finding it.
[00:21:52] Kym: I love that message so much because like you said, I mean by all outside eyes, you were super successful, but you still didn't feel that way for whatever reason and for what the reasons we're talking about right now. Just that wasn't. Your path
[00:22:06] Mel: sustainable. Yeah.
[00:22:07] Kym: It's
[00:22:08] Mel: Yeah.
[00:22:08] Kym: Great word. Yeah, exactly. Oh my gosh.
[00:22:12] Okay, so, walk us through, how do you help somebody so they have a 90 minute reading with you? Right. Because a lot of the people that listen to this podcast are entrepreneurial and maybe aren't just doing therapy, they're doing. Side hustles, maybe have other income streams or want to have other income streams.
[00:22:26] how do you like take the information about the chart, do the reading, and then what happens? Give us, give us some information like how do we incorporate all this into what we wanna do in our lives, you know, how, how to live this, these lives that we wanna live.
[00:22:42] Mel: Absolutely. So part of the intake form, so just FYI, for those who are wanting to do a reading, I do need to know your birth date, time and location. But also in the intake form, I ask you, where are you struggling in your business? What would you like more clarity on? 'cause this time is all about you.
[00:22:58] This isn't about me showing off. This is about holding space for you and meeting you where you're at and what you want clarity on, and showing you on top of just who you are beautifully and energetically. Where that all lies, you can start taking those steps. So it's a 90 minute reading. And then after that reading, I give my attendee or my, my participant, my client 30 days of Voxer access to me.
[00:23:21] I don't know if you're familiar with Voxer. I love it because it's applicable to however you best process. So for a lot of my manifesting generators. And generators also, the fact that they can voice message and just word vomit for as long as they just need to. They love that they have access for people who want to type it out and read it.
[00:23:40] They can type it out. They can text it to me as well. But I offer 30 days of aftercare support because I know so much stuff is gonna get shooken up. And one of the quotes I say a lot is I want to be there as the glitter settles. I use that picture 'cause my, my son, he's now 14. He was diagnosed as autistic when he was four, and he would have meltdowns.
[00:24:03] And one of the things we used to use a lot was a calm down jar where it was filled with liquid and glitter and boba, whatever. And he would shake and shake and shake, shake, shake that to get all the energy out. And then we would sit there and watch the glitter settle and take deep breaths. That has been something that still sticks with me of like, no, we gotta let the glitter settle.
[00:24:20] and I don't, I, I don't think a lot of practitioners hold that type of space. Some do, some don't. Some, you know, and I, that's what I, that's the one thing that I love about how different practitioners are, because there's different people. Different people want different types of support. So if you're looking for a pro, a practitioner who doesn't just give you a
[00:24:40] ton of information and then pieces out or says, okay, now that's five grand that you have 30 days to process and really figure out how you wanna utilize this information. that's how I hold space. And then during that 30 days, if they have more aftercare is, you know, available, whether, you know, they have the capacity for it energetically, financially, I things, then I always create custom
[00:25:01] containers for them of, okay, how does this, you know, what works best for you, your, you know, your capacity in all of the ways. And I love being able to do that because again, everybody's support is different and I love to be accessible and available. And meet you where you are at. What do you need right now?
[00:25:19] do we spend an hour and just look at your full structure of your business from a practicality and human design standpoint and just start rej? Or are you feeling emotional? And do we need to spend time with a certain center or hold space for just something that's really grand in your gears?
[00:25:34] And I love that I can hold space like that, that it can be that bridge between the structural and the quote unquote spiritual, it is, I am here for you. I know you because I know your human design. You know you because it's you, and together we can really strengthen what you already know to be true and how you can implement that.
[00:25:53] Kym: And it's cool having an expert like you that knows your chart. I think, because like even me, like I know it and people have told it to me before, but I mean, half of it's gone outta my brain at this point. I have a chart I could go look at, but like how the, the closed gate and the open gate and the sacral center and all, and the humming and listen to your, you know, all that stuff.
[00:26:10] I forget all of it. So I, I could see the value in that, like having somebody that really is an expert in the chart and then knows how to apply it to business. I think that's just really amazing to be able to offer that to people. Yeah, it's very cool. So. I forget how you worded it in the beginning, but you were like, I focus on all three parts.
[00:26:27] The spiritual, the emotional and all of that together. What was, how was that, that you said that? I just thought that was so interesting. Oh, okay. Yes. Can we just touch on that for a second, because I thought that was such an interesting concept.
[00:26:38] Mel: Yeah. one of the things that I love about human design is that it, it, gives you vernacular to redefine well used words for yourself. Profitability is one. Procrastination, consistency, rest success, sustainability. Because a lot actually, all of those come with a very traditional context that we just know, but we don't embody or know know.
[00:27:03] It's just like, yeah, okay. Whatever. It, it usually triggers a certain type of emotion and profitability is was one of those for me because. When my hierarchy of needs got flipped the wrong way, and I was focusing on just the financial, which got pushed a lot in network marketing and especially, but you know, in the, in the traditional coaching space as well, especially in the early two thousands or mid two thousands I realized that when I pulled back from it and took a step back and really looked at it, I'm like, well, financial is actually the reward and that's not technically gonna come in every day.
[00:27:38] So how do I keep myself motivated? What about it makes me love being an entrepreneur and have loved being an entrepreneur for the last 16 years. Oh, it's those glimmers. Well, what are those glimmers? Well, it's those emotional highs. It's those mental highs. It's those energetic highs that we know we're on the right path. We're making a difference that always turn into a financial reward sooner or later.
[00:28:01] And so when I started to really look at them like, you know, profitability is multi-level, and financial, I always say last because honestly it should be the last one. Yes. It's gorgeous. Love money. Absolutely. And with that, I had the money and because I wasn't mentally and emotionally energetically profitable, it was just money.
[00:28:21] And so when you have those profitability buckets filled, and some might be, you know, more filled than others. It's when you leave it, lean it into that different hierarchy of needs of the mental, emotional, energetic first, and then the financial at the bottom. That's what creates the sustainability for yourself, It's not like a, like a woo woo, you know, soft, oh, just go with the flow. No, it's you. You know what makes you happy? You know that there's things that keep you mo right every day. And with that motivation gives you the encouragement to share more, to talk more to, be more out there with who you are and what you do.
[00:28:58] And that's what calls in the financial to you. So it's bringing more of those, of those layers to those words, and especially how those words layer for you, your energetic type and so on and so forth, so you can really understand, oh, this, this is what rest means to me. Oh, this is what consistency is to me, and so on and so forth.
[00:29:19] Kym: Okay. So I absolutely love what you were just saying and it just, it really brings it home to just put language to it, the way you're putting language to it.
[00:29:28] I don't think a lot of people think of it that way and to have an awareness of the profitability model that you're talking about, to be able to just like set your intentions every day, I think could be a game changer to a lot of people just even listening to this podcast today, to just think about all of those buckets and how they add up together to help with your like, I don't know, enjoyment of your life or what you're doing or the businesses that you're building, that kind of thing.
[00:29:51] Mel: Yeah. and it gets you out of that routine of just going for the next thing, because that's how we're taught. We're taught, okay, once you do this, then you do this, and then once you do this, then you go here. And for a lot of us. That it's comfortable to do that because you're like, oh good, you're just telling me.
[00:30:10] Great. Awesome. And there's always gonna be a point where you are gonna look back and go, oh, like somebody might be listening to this episode right now going, I have never once in my life felt mentally or emotionally or energetically profitable, nor do they even know that was a thing.
[00:30:26] And I've had many clients where they have been CEOs of major companies for decades hearing that and going, I'm sorry, what? And then reintroducing themselves, or possibly introducing themselves to themselves for the first time. 'cause they never took the time to actually define themselves for themselves. It was just whatever defined them by title, by accolade, what have you.
[00:30:50] It'll get you somewhere. It got me somewhere. Absolutely. But it's not sustainable. it always comes back around to where she's like, well, why is none of this feeling good anymore? why isn't this working? Why isn't this performing the way that it was? Well, it's 'cause you've evolved as a person, but you may not know that because you don't know who you were to begin with.
[00:31:08] So, where are you now? What, why is this not working? Are you a generator where that means you've mastered everything and it's time to celebrate and recalibrate and pause? Like even just that permission of, oh, no, no, no, this is par for the course. Cool. I've mastered everything. Instead of why is this not working?
[00:31:25] And just ramming your head against the wall. So it is those little things of just, oh, yeah, reminder. Got it. Okay. I got this. I mean, I have this fully, but I at least understand where I am and who I am and what I can do in the now as I wait for more of that information or to respond, or that invitation to move forward.
[00:31:48] Kym: Yeah. As a generator. I mean, the curse is you always. I don't know about everybody, but the curse is you just feel like, just, just like you have to keep creating and you keep doing. I don't know if you ever feel like that, you know, but for me it's just like nonstop. Like I can't get it to stop. So I, I have to, when you said rest, I'm like, yes, I need to just hear that right now.
[00:32:08] Mel: Because especially as a hermit for you, and also a re a reminder, if those who are listening know that they're a generator, you're not the initiator, you're the follow through.
[00:32:16] So it's that pausing point as well and that understanding of, well, for you, what is initiation versus versus respond. Because your strategy is wait, is know thyself and wait to respond.
[00:32:27] And so even in that, like 90% of us are designed to wait in our strategies and nobody teaches that. Ever, It's follow through, follow up, da, da, da. Like go, go, go, go, go. And. 10% of the population is designed to do that. The rest of us are designed to share and have some aspect of weights in their strategy.
[00:32:45] And so even inside of that of like, that shifts your pace and therefore that shifts your process, which then creates sustainability. So it's just, and it's not game changing. I've never had somebody in a reading who went, oh my God, I've completely mucked up everything I've made every single wrong decision.
[00:33:03] No, they just go, oh, that's where I went too far. Oh, that's where I started too soon. So it just gives you that information to customize and really create, you know, again, that science of differentiation, that profitability of your uniqueness and how you can not only protect yourself, but project yourself into spaces that are always profitable for you in all the ways possible.
[00:33:25] Kym: Gosh. I love that message. Yes. I love it so much. Oh, thank you. Okay. I feel like I could just talk about this for days, so how does somebody work with you? If somebody's listening? They're like, I like need this person in my life. For sure. How do they find you and work with you?
[00:33:41] Mel: feel free to schedule a reading with me on my website, mel mcsherry.com. If you're listening right now, you're like, oh, but I have questions.
